Setting up @ Devine’s, Durham, NC (5/27/2016) – Click to zoom
This June and July are going to be packed full of musical goodness, as we play more than our usual share of shows. Thanks to the folks at Devine’s for letting us take over their outdoor seating area this past Friday night. We appreciated the groups of dedicated patrons who hung out long into the night, dancing and cheering and having all kinds of fun (especially the die-hards at the back of the patio). It was great to see some old friends, some family, and lots of new faces. We had a blast!
Next weekend we’re slathering on the sunscreen and heading out poolside at Preston Village for their annual pool opening party (that’s a private affair). Then it’s more sun, water, and rock & roll as we pack up the gear and head over to Topsail Island for a yacht club party at the Harbor Village Marina… launching into summer with style!
Last night we kicked off our 2016 gig schedule with a bang at Doherty’s in Cary. Thanks to all our friends & fans who came out to support us. We loved the energy in the venue, and the constant stream of dancers out on the floor had us moving and grooving as well! From the out-of-towners who stopped by to hear TWR do our thing, to the members of other bands who turned out to cheer us on, all I can say is: That. was. fun.
As you heard in the first couple of sets, we worked on a lot of new music during the holiday break… The Police, Georgia Satellites, The Romantics, Bryan Adams, even some Kiss thrown in for good measure. It was a “rock & roll all night” kind of night. More new tunes to come as we head into February.
See y’all at Rudy’s this Friday (2/5/16) @ 8:30 PM sharp. Be there or be a rectangular rhombus.
Wow. Tráli… what more can we say? Amazing venue. Awesome staff. What a crowd! Thank you to all who came out to hear us play — without taking a break between sets — at Tráli Morrisville. The energy in the room was so intense, we couldn’t bring ourselves to take 10 and let it stop. We’ll be back, for sure.
From a popping bass that needed some duct tape at the last minute, to an amp cutting out from so much rock & roll goodness played at feverish pace and high volume, to the soaring vocals, to the gloriously failed cowbell audition (yeah, you know who you are, dude in the light blue shirt), it was night to remember.
And hey, maybe piano ballads can live beside CCR and the Stones (says the keyboardist) ;).
Before heading out on July 18th to hear TWR at Tra’Li in Morrisville, take a few moments to check out The Cary Citizen’s recent feature about the pub, its proprietors, and their mission. From the food and drinks to the décor and the entertainment, they are “committed to staying true to the Holy Trinity of Irish Hospitality. Food, people, and music.” Sounds like our kind of place. Sláinte!
… we’re taking our act outdoors.
We had a great night at Woody’s last night. Our thanks to all of you who came out, and thanks to the staff at Woody’s for treating us so well. Next, we turn up the heat at a private pool party in Cary’s Preston neighborhood. Catch some rays. Poolside. Draft brew. Food trucks (meatballs & ice cream). Rockin’ tunes. 🙂
We return to Doherty’s in Cary on June 27th, and we’ve added some new songs to the mix. Put it on your calendar… you know you want to drop in and hear our takes on ZZ Top and The Spin Doctors. You’re sure to leave with a song stuck in your head!
Just a quick note to let our friends and fans know that we will be playing The Train Station Bar & Grill in Cary (instead of The Upper Deck) on Saturday, March 14th. We plan to start playing at 10:00pm, so come on out—and get ready to hit the dance floor!
Come on out to Doherty’s and hear The Whisky Runners in action tonight.
This will be the debut performance with our new bassist, Kraig Oman. Extra rehearsals in January & February (working around the snow and ice) have given Kraig a chance to settle in and learn the standard TWR arrangements. He brings a different twist on some things, so get ready to be impressed.
Hope to see you there!
Hear The Whisky Runners stomp through a cover of Blue Öyster Cult’s Godzilla. Recorded live at Doherty’s Irish Pub, served up via Soundcloud.
